Forward momentum beats perfection

Some days it feels like I’ve got it all together. Other days… not so much.

And the truth? There’s no such thing as perfect balance.

Here’s what I mean:

The other day, I was feeling pretty good. I’d gotten up early for a strength workout, did some patient consults and finished up charts, posted on social media and answered messages, even squeezed in a trip to the Farmer’s Market with the kids. By dinnertime, I thought: I’m on top of it today.

But when I finally looked at my watch, I realized I had barely 4,000 steps — less than half of what I usually aim for.

At that point, I wasn’t about to walk laps for an hour just to hit 10,000. But I did leash up our dog Muffin and head out for a cool evening walk along the lake. By the time we got home, I was half way to 7,000. Not “perfect”… but so much better than if I’d thrown in the towel.

And that’s the point.

When I’m rocking it as a mom, my work might not get as much attention. When I’m totally dialed into nutrition, often other areas slip. That’s just life. The best we can do is keep moving forward — adjusting as we go.

Because at the end of the day, the most important thing is making sure you don’t get lost in the shuffle. Taking care of yourself isn’t optional. It’s what allows you to keep showing up for everyone else.

So here’s your reminder: don’t chase perfect balance. Focus on what matters most in the big picture — and keep the momentum going.

Forward beats perfect, every time.
