What Jane Goodall Reminded Me about Purpose & Health
"What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
— Jane Goodall
I hardly ever watch TV. Most nights, my lights are out before 10pm so I get enough sleep before my 5:45am wakeup for my morning workout.
But one day recently, while eating lunch, I decided to watch the new Netflix documentary Famous Last Words: Dr. Jane Goodall. It was SO good that I watched the whole thing… and then watched it again with my family that evening.
Like many, I've always known her as “the lady who works with the chimpanzees,” but I didn't realize how strong her sense of purpose was. The documentary was filmed with the premise that it wouldn't be released until after her passing — which somehow makes every word land even deeper.
At the end, Jane spoke directly to the camera — alone — sharing that each of us has a purpose and a responsibility to care for this planet and all who live on it.
She reminded us that even when life feels dark, as long as there is hope, there's still a possibility we can make things better.
And that small actions add up to big impact.
Those words really stayed with me.
Because it's so much harder to live out our purpose when we're running on empty — when we're tired, achy, dealing with hot flashes, or struggling with the digestive issues that quietly wear us down.
Taking care of our health isn't selfish.
It's one of the most powerful ways to honour the reason we're here.
I know this firsthand.
A few years ago, I was so tired — more than I even realized — and I actually questioned whether this was still the work I was meant to do.
But once I got myself back… my energy, my focus, my strength… I knew without question — this is exactly what I'm meant to do.
And I want to help as many women as possible feel that same sense of renewal so that they can each fulfill their purpose.
